AAUA Rape: Army Dismisses Officer, Hands Him To Police

The authorities of the Nigeria Army on Saturday confirmed that the soldier involved in the alleged rape of a female student of  Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, (AAUA) Ondo State, has been; handed over to the Ondo State Police Command for prosecution.

It was gathered that the suspect; Lance Corporal Sunday Adelola, has earlier been; dismissed from the service by the army before he was; handed over to the police.

According to a source within; the barrack, the suspect had been; tried at the brigade and has been; dismissed by the military.

The source said: “He has been sacked from service and he has been transferred to the police for prosecution. The army does not tolerate indiscipline.”

The Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade Akure, Brig. Gen. Zakari Abubakar, had earlier promised to transfer the case to the police after the alleged randy soldier must have been sacked and the investigation concluded.

In the aftermath of a sexual assault or rape, the AAUA student can face extremely difficult and painful emotions and experiences. Every survivor responds to traumatic events in their own way. The effects of the trauma can be short-term or last long after the sexual assault or rape.

If a survivor’s reactions do not match common responses—such as no physical injury—it does not mean what happened was not sexual abuse or assault.
